Delete your Hexis account
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This page explains how to request deletion of your Hexis account — the app published on Google Play as Hexis (chat.hexis.app), on the App Store as Hexis, and as the desktop app at hexis.chat. Hexis is built and operated by jay0 dev LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company.
If you want only some of your data removed and would like to keep your account, use Delete your data instead.
The short version
- To request deletion: email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my account” and your Hexis username.
- We verify the request is genuinely yours, then delete the account — usually within 72 hours, and always within 30 days.
- Deleted: your username, email address, password, two-factor secrets, encryption keys, sessions, push tokens, memberships, friends and blocks, settings, profile details, and uploaded media.
- Kept: an anonymized placeholder in place of your account, messages and files you already sent to other people, encrypted backups for up to six months, and transaction records we are legally required to retain.
- Deletion is permanent. There is no undo, and we cannot restore an individual account from a backup.
How to request account deletion
Follow these steps. They work from any platform — Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS — and you do not need the app installed to make the request.
-
Email us the request
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line Delete my account. If there is an email address on your Hexis account, send it from that address — it makes verification immediate.
Email a deletion request
-
Tell us which account to delete
Include your Hexis username, exactly as it appears in the app. That is the only thing we need in order to find the account. Please also mention whether you own any Hexis servers — see Servers you own below.
Do not send us your password. We will never ask you for it.
-
Confirm it is really you
We reply with a verification step. If you wrote from the email address on the account, confirming your reply is usually enough; otherwise we ask you to confirm a one-time code from inside the app. We do not action a deletion request we cannot verify, because doing so would let a stranger delete your account.
-
We delete the account and confirm
Once verified, we delete the account and email you a confirmation. This normally happens within 72 hours, and never takes longer than 30 days from the point your request is verified.
Deleting from the desktop app
The desktop app also ships a command console that deletes the account directly, without emailing us. Launch it with hexis --repl and run:
/deleteaccount --password=<your password> --yes-i-really-mean-it
That runs immediately and cannot be undone. A one-tap deletion control inside the mobile and desktop interfaces is on our roadmap; until it ships, the email request above is the supported route on Android and iOS.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove the following from our live systems:
- Account identity and credentials — username, display name, email address, password hash, two-factor authentication secret, and two-factor backup codes.
- Encryption and device keys registered to your account, including the identity keys used for end-to-end encryption. Once those are gone, content encrypted to your account cannot be decrypted by anyone, including us.
- Sessions and login tokens — you are signed out on every device.
- Push notification tokens, so the platform stops waking your devices.
- Profile details — bio, status, avatar, and per-server nicknames and avatars.
- Media you uploaded — the records for your avatar and other uploads are deleted, which permanently revokes access to the underlying files; no further download of them can be authorized.
- Memberships and roles — the servers and channels you belonged to, and the roles you held in them.
- Social graph — your friends list, incoming and outgoing friend requests, and your block list.
- Settings and app state — notification preferences, mutes, read state, and your GIF favorites and recent-use history.
- Invites you created, which stop working immediately.
- Billing linkage — the customer and subscription references that connect your account to our payment provider, plus cancellation of any active subscription (see If you pay for Hexis).
- Developer applications you own, if any, are revoked along with their access tokens.
What is kept, and for how long
A few things necessarily survive an account deletion. We would rather say so plainly than imply an erasure we cannot perform.
- An anonymized placeholder record — retained indefinitely. Conversations, abuse reports, and administrative logs reference your past activity, and the placeholder keeps them coherent. It carries no username, email address, password, keys, or profile information, and your account shows as a deleted user.
- Messages and files you already sent to other people or into shared servers — retained. They remain where you sent them, attributed to a deleted user, and stay on the devices of the people you sent them to. This is a property of a shared conversation, the same way an email you sent stays in the recipient's mailbox. In end-to-end encrypted conversations we hold only ciphertext that we cannot read.
- Encrypted backups — retained for up to six months. We keep encrypted backups for disaster recovery on a rotating schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly copies. Deleted information persists in those copies until they age out, at which point it is gone from them too. Backups are never used to restore an individual account.
- Operational and security logs — short-lived. Connection metadata such as IP addresses appears in operational logs used for rate-limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging, and rotates out on a short cycle.
- Transaction and tax records — retained as long as the law requires, typically seven years. Our payment provider holds the payment records; we hold the invoice-level records needed for accounting. Neither contains message content.
- Safety and enforcement records — where we have taken action on abuse, we retain the minimum record needed to enforce that outcome and to handle any appeal or legal obligation.
If you pay for Hexis
Deleting your account cancels an active Hexis subscription. Cancellation stops future charges; it is not a refund of amounts already paid — see our Refund Policy. If you want a refund, ask for it before requesting deletion, because we lose the ability to look up your billing history once the account is gone.
A subscription bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store must also be cancelled in that store's subscription settings, since we do not control those.
Servers you own
If you own a Hexis server, that server is deleted along with your account — its channels, roles, invites, and membership go with it, and the other members lose access. We do not yet support transferring ownership to another member. If you want a server to outlive your account, say so in your deletion request and we will work out the options with you before we delete anything.
Changed your mind?
Tell us before we action the request and we will stop. Once the deletion runs it is final: the account, its username, and its keys are gone, and we have no mechanism to bring them back.
