Delete your Hexis data
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This page explains how to have data removed from Hexis — the app published on Google Play as Hexis (chat.hexis.app), on the App Store as Hexis, and as the desktop app at hexis.chat — while keeping your account. Hexis is built and operated by jay0 dev LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company.
If you want your whole account gone, use Delete your account instead. That removes everything listed here and the account itself.
The short version
- Some things you can delete yourself, right now, in the app — individual messages and files you sent, your profile details and avatar, server memberships, friends, and blocks. See Delete it yourself.
- For anything else, email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my data”, your Hexis username, and what you want removed.
- We verify the request is genuinely yours, then remove the data — usually within 72 hours, and always within 30 days.
- Kept: messages and files you already sent to other people, encrypted backups for up to six months, short-lived operational logs, and transaction records we are legally required to retain.
- Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore individual data from a backup.
How to request data deletion
Follow these steps. They work from any platform — Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS — and you do not need the app installed to make the request.
-
Email us the request
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line Delete my data. If there is an email address on your Hexis account, send it from that address — it makes verification immediate.
Email a data deletion request
-
Tell us what to remove
Include your Hexis username and say what you want deleted — for example “the email address on my account”, “the files I uploaded”, “my waitlist signup”, or “everything you hold about me”. If you are not sure what we hold, say so and we will tell you first. The categories are listed under What we can delete.
Do not send us your password. We will never ask you for it.
-
Confirm it is really you
We reply with a verification step. If you wrote from the email address on the account, confirming your reply is usually enough; otherwise we ask you to confirm a one-time code from inside the app. We do not action a request we cannot verify, because doing so would let a stranger erase your data.
-
We delete the data and confirm
Once verified, we remove the data from our live systems and email you a confirmation describing what was deleted and anything we had to keep, with the reason. This normally happens within 72 hours, and never takes longer than 30 days from the point your request is verified.
Delete it yourself
You do not need to write to us for any of these. They take effect immediately.
- A message or file you sent — open the message's menu in the app and choose Delete. Bear in mind that other people may already have seen it, and copies may remain on their devices.
- Your profile details — clear your bio, display name, avatar, or per-server nickname in the app's profile settings.
- A server you are in — leave the server. Your membership, roles, and per-server profile for it are removed.
- Friends and blocks — remove a friend or unblock someone from the friends list.
- A signed-in device — sign out on that device. Its session and its push notification token are revoked.
- Marketing and waitlist email — use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any such email.
What we can delete on request
Ask for any of these, individually or all at once:
- The email address on your account, and any pending email-change record.
- Profile information — display name, bio, status, avatar, and per-server nicknames and avatars.
- Files you uploaded — avatars, server icons and banners, and attachments. Deleting the record permanently revokes access to the underlying file; no further download of it can be authorized.
- Messages you sent, including in bulk if you would rather not delete them one at a time.
- Your social graph — friends, friend requests, and blocks.
- Settings and app state — notification preferences, mutes, read state, and your GIF favorites and recent-use history.
- Push notification tokens for every device, which stops push delivery until you sign in again.
- Sessions — we can revoke every signed-in session for your account.
- Invites you created.
- Your waitlist signup — removed from our records and from our email provider's audience.
- Support and feedback correspondence you have sent us, including beta feedback notes.
- Age-verification reference, where age assurance applied to your account. We never hold your identity document, photograph, name, or date of birth — only an irreversible reference value.
You can also ask for a copy of the data we hold about you rather than its deletion. Same address, same verification.
What we cannot delete, and why
- Content other people received. Messages and files you sent into a conversation or shared server remain there, and remain on the devices of the people you sent them to. This is a property of a shared conversation, the same way an email you sent stays in the recipient's mailbox. Deleting a message removes it from Hexis going forward, but it cannot reach back into copies already on someone else's device.
- Content we cannot read. In end-to-end encrypted direct messages, encrypted servers, and voice, we hold only ciphertext. We can delete the stored ciphertext, but we cannot search it, produce it in readable form, or selectively edit it.
- Other people's records of a shared event — for example, a server's audit log noting that a member joined or was removed, or an abuse report someone filed about a message.
- Records we are required to keep — transaction and tax records, and the minimum record needed to enforce a safety or abuse decision or to handle an appeal.
What is kept, and for how long
- Live systems — the data you asked us to delete is removed promptly on verification, normally within 72 hours and always within 30 days.
- Encrypted backups — retained for up to six months. We keep encrypted backups for disaster recovery on a rotating schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly copies. Deleted information persists in those copies until they age out, at which point it is gone from them too. Backups are never used to restore individual data.
- Operational and security logs — short-lived. Connection metadata such as IP addresses appears in operational logs used for rate-limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging, and rotates out on a short cycle.
- Transaction and tax records — retained as long as the law requires, typically seven years. Our payment provider holds the payment records; we hold the invoice-level records needed for accounting. Neither contains message content, and we never receive or store your full card number.
- Safety and enforcement records — where we have taken action on abuse, we retain the minimum record needed to enforce that outcome and to handle any appeal or legal obligation.
- Your account itself — kept. This page is about data, not the account. To remove the account too, see Delete your account.
